Summer is the season we’ve waited all year for—long days, high temps, and sunshine that seems to last forever. It’s the perfect time to pick up a fresh bouquet, but it’s also when flowers need a little extra TLC to keep looking their best.

Here’s your go-to guide for keeping your summer bouquet fresh, beautiful, and photo-worthy, even when the temps climb:

Start with a clean vase.

Give it a good scrub with warm, soapy water. A clean vase helps prevent bacteria and gives your flowers a fresh start.

 Snip those stems.

Before you place your bouquet in water, cut about an inch off each stem at an angle. This will help the flowers drink water more efficiently and last longer.

Change the water every two to three days.

It might seem like overkill, but trust us—clean water makes all the difference. If it’s hot out, add a couple of ice cubes to cool things down.

Keep them out of direct sunlight.

Even if they look pretty on the windowsill, direct sun can wilt your bouquet fast. Aim for bright, indirect light instead.

Use the flower food.

That little packet that comes with your bouquet? Use it. It helps keep the water clear and gives your flowers the nutrients they need to thrive.

Rearrange when needed!

If a few stems start to fade, remove them and re-style your arrangement. This will extend the life of your bouquet and give it a fresh new look.
